An entire keg of thanks goes out to BATW Ambassador Fred Merkaloy for taking the beans to meet Sam Adams!
| Good morning, New England Patriots and fine lager fans, and welcome to the Granary Burial Grounds in Boston, Mass. Today the beans stop to pay tribute to none other than Samuel Adams -- freedom fighter, founding member of the Sons of Liberty, one time Massachusetts governor, official signer of the Declaration of Independence, and a leading speaker in the cause of American autonomy. Sam was born here in Boston in 1722, the son of a brewmaster (hence, the suds named after him today...), and while he never made a fortune in business, he did become well known as a political rebel with a cause. Samuel is believed to have been the man who helped organize and then signaled the start of Boston Tea Party in 1773, an act that in 1774 made King George III close Boston Harbor and to declare the colony in a state of rebellion. That alone is enough for the beans to offer Sam all the respect in the world - a little defiance every now and then is a good thing. So anyway, the beans salute Mr. Adams for all that he did for future generations of citizens (and vegetables) within the United States. In his honor, the beans promise to defy monarchy rule within the produce section at every opportunity... |
