Shamrocks of thanks to the Wilmot family for taking the beans to Northern Ireland!
| Greetings world tourists, and welcome to the city of Belfast! (Yes, just like the sign says.) About 285,000 people live in Belfast, which is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland. Founded on the mouth of the Lagan River in 1613 by settlers from Britain, Belfast took its name from Beal Feirsde (Irish for "the mouth of the sandbank"). And for those of you who think that the beans never stop to ask for directions, here's photographic proof. Now if they could just get used to driving on the left... |

Anyway, the next stop on their tour was at the Belfast City Hall. The City Hall has been described as a "glorious Edwardian confection of a building" (which makes it sound like it's made of gingerbread or something...). The building opened in 1906, and is built in a Renaissance style with three types of Italian marble. and a 173-foot high dome. The beans really thought this was a cool building, and were hoping to stay for a while, but the spiked fence convinced them that it was time to move on... |
| Here the beans find out what time it is (11:12 AM, it looks like...) in front of the Albert Clock, which leans in a manner similar to that very popular tipping tower in Piza, Italy. The clock was actually built on reclaimed land, which turned out to not be the most sturdy of soil, but recent renovation efforts have taken place to make sure it doesn't come a-tumbling down one day. | ![]() |

Next up, the beans stopped by the new Odyssey Pavilion, which contains a hockey arena, a concert hall, and an IMAX theater. Now, be honest -- you haven't lived until you've seen a can of black beans skate through a woodwind section on a 5-story high movie screen, now have you? |
| Belfast is one of the most important shipbuilding and repairing centers of the United Kingdom, and so it is with great pride that we show you the Harland and Wolf dockyard in Belfast Harbour! Now, what's so special about this old run down building, you say? Well, it just happens that many years ago, a little ship by the name of TITANIC was built right here... So the beans just had to stop by and see where it all started. Of course, someone is now making an authentic reproduction of the Titanic, but we'll all hope that they have better luck the second time around, shall we? The beans will be on board, but don't be surprised to see that they brought their own flotation device with them, just in case. |

And since it wouldn't be fair to talk about the Titanic without actually showing it, here the beans stop off to see the majestic ocean liner, or at least a fairly decent rendition. The beans enjoyed having the opportunity to see the Titanic, but were a little disappointed that they didn't run into Kate Winslet while here... although they did get to hang with Leo for a while, but that's a story for another day. |
