Special thanks as always to our friends Bob & Doris Darrow for their fine contributions to BATW!

Greetings, weary traveler, and welcome to the world-famous (literally!) Benbow Inn, in the gorgeous Redwood Empire of Northern California! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this world-class Tudor-style inn is known for exquisite fine dining, old world ambiance, and provides the perfect setting for a romantic getaway (wink, wink).

The "Hotel Benbow" as it was originally called opened to the public in July 1926. Built by the Benbow family - nine talented brothers and sisters - the hotel became a popular destination for Hollywood bigshots of the 30's, including Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Alan Ladd, Charles Laughton, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, Joan Fontaine, and Basil Rathbone. (For those of you that think "Dude, Where's My Car?" is a cinematic masterpiece, try watching the fine films made by these people sometime. Trust me - you'll be glad you did.)

The beans enjoyed their time at the Inn, and highly recommend it to anyone passing through. Their only request is that you don't spend your entire trip cooped up in your room watching scrambled SpectraVision.
