Beans Around The World

Thanks as always to BATW Ambassadors Bob & Doris Darrow for their contributions from California!

First off, my sincerest apologies to Bob & Doris - I thought I had lost... - um, I mean "misplaced" - yeah, that's it - these magnificent photos from the Pacific coastline. Check out this amazing view - pretty cool, huh?

Here the beans hang out (but not over) the Bixby bridge, on the Monterey Bay and just south of Clint Eastwood's stomping grounds, Carmel. If you're curious, "Bixby" stems from Mr. Charles Henry Bixby, who just happened to be a cousin of US President James K. Polk, who was an early settler in the area. Of the five bridges built along the 30 mile highway on the central coast, Bixby remains the most admired, and it's not hard to see why.

At its completion, Bixby Bridge was one of the largest single-arch concrete bridge in the world. Bixby Creek Bridge is 714 feet long and has a main span of 320 feet. Reaching over 260 feet high, The good ol' Bixby is probably the most photographed object along the coastal route.

The beans were impressed with the view, and decided right there that if they ever were to retire, this would be the place. Now, if we can just get them registered as "historic"..., we'll be all set!
