Aquatic thanks go out to BATW Ambassador Terry May for showing the beans the underwater life in Mexico!
| Hola, mi amigos, and welcome to beautiful Cozumel, Mexico! Today the beans have dropped by the stunningly pretty Chankanaab Park, where they decided to hop into their little Speedo and spend a perfectly sunny afternoon in the water. Chankanaab, which means "small sea", is a saltwater lagoon that is part of a national preserve with an archaeological park, botanical garden, dolphin aquarium, and wildlife sanctuary. At the dolphin aquarium, you can swim with Flipper and pals, but that's just a little too close for comfort for the beans. (They like dolphins and all, but they may accidently mistake the frijoles for a snack instead of a dive-buddy, and that would put a damper on the fun.) |

So here are the beans under the sea, (literally) soaking up the atmosphere. Here in the Yucatan Peninsula, the daytime highs are pretty much in the 80's year round - perfect for just about any can of vegetables that's a little too weary from long winters. Besides, what's the fun of looking for mermaids if they're likely to be wearing heavy parkas? Now, while most non-canned lifeforms tend to worry about sun burns while snorkeling, let me assure you that the beans have nothing to worry about...except perhaps for a little rust. By the way - does anyone know if they make "Rust-oleum" in an SPF 45? |
| As for the land above here, Cozumel is Mexico's largest island, which is just 12 miles off the coast of the Peninsula. Cozumel is just 28 miles long, but manages to pack a lot of good times in that space. But it's here under the sea that's so dazzling. The clarity of the water is anywhere from 100 - 200 feet, so you can jump right in and see everything that's coming your way -- fish, coral, and the occasional can of frijoles, doin' what appears to be the backstroke. So the beans had a great time snorkeling in the Yucatan sea, and thank all of the marine life for their hospitality, and for not using them as shark bait. |
