Yes, once again the beans pay their respects to the dearly departed, courtesy of BATW Ambassador Fred Merkaloy. Thanks, Fred!
| "Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today." Good evening, friends and admirers, and welcome to the final resting place of James Byron Dean. Jimmy was born in 1931, and was raised on a farm here in Fairmount. He went on to act on the New York stage, and became an international movie superstar after just three movies - 'East of Eden', 'Giant', and a classic that the beans feel should be required viewing for every 17-year-old, 'Rebel Without a Cause'. Alas, in September, 1955 Jimmy was taken from us at the age of 24, in an infamous auto accident involving his Porsche Spyder and some really high speeds. But like all good things, his image and fame live on. And as you can see at just about any gift shop or movie memorabilia store in the country, even 47 years later James - and the image he projected so well - are still beloved. The beans were glad to hang out with Jimmy, but have to wonder about the people who left all this stuff behind - sunglasses, beer cans, and - yikes! - lipstick marks on the headstone? At least the beans clean up after themselves... So let that be a lesson to you - as crass as it may be to take pictures of black beans on a tombstone, it's twice as tacky to litter on their grave. That's just asking for a haunting, in the bean's opinion... |
