A mountain of thanks to BATW Ambassador Ole Bak Jensen for bringing the beans to the Top of Denmark!

Hello Vikings and other rebellious visitors, and welcome to Denmark! Today the beans have the great pleasure of dropping by this fun-loving nation of 5 million Danes, where as we understand it, a quick wit and a undeniable sense of humor are most welcome. And since this is a can of frijoles we're talking about, you just know that the beans were bound to fit in nicely. So here we are at Ejer Bavnehøj, which at 170.89 meters above sea level, is the highest natural point in all of Denmark. True, when compared next to the Swiss Alps or the Andes, Ejer Bavnehøj isn't all that high, but all things considered, it's still up there a ways. Besides, when you're a 6-inch high can of beans, everything looks tall to you. |
| Anyway, here the beans take a closer look at the tower itself, which was built back in 1924 as a memorial of the reunion of the south of Jutland, which was lost to Prussia in 1864, and then reunited with Denmark after the World War I. It got it name because "Ejer" is the name of a nearby village, while "Bavnehøj" means a hill where people burned bonfires used as beacons to alert the locals of unrest. (Sort of an early Bat Signal.) Of course, the beans have their own way of signaling people, but it usually involves instant text messaging from their cell phone... | ![]() |

In 1999, Ejer Bavnehøjs Venner (Friends of Ejer Bavnehøj) was established to promote "The Top of Denmark", and in 2002 a major renovation was completed, adding an elevator to the tower so that visitors could enjoy the view from the top without gasping for breath from the climb. They celebrate Grundlovsdag (honoring the Danish constitution) here every June 5th, and if you time it right, you might also be able to take in an outdoor concert or two. So grab your blanket and your favorite can of legumes, and find a spot on the hill. Who knows - you might even spot a certain can of beans in the crowd. And so there you have it. The beans had a fantastic time in Demark, and sincerely thank everyone for their kind hospitality and for letting them be "king of the hill" - for at least one day. |
