Dodger Stadium - Los Angeles, CA

It was a grand slam for BATW Ambassador Bill Mezek as he and the beans went to the home of Dodger Blue!

Hello Garveys, Lasordas, and Saxs, and welcome to one of the greatest ballparks around - Dodger Stadium! Although the beans will always consider the Seattle Mariners as their home team, if you were to crack open their lid, you'll find a musty old Dodgers pennant on the wall of their can. Yes, the Los Angeles Dodgers are by far the bean's favorite National League team. Why, for 3 years as a pre-teen, I proudly wore my L.A. baseball cap everywhere, until my dog chewed it up. (She must've been a Yankees fan...) Even now - twentysome years later, I'm still a Dodger fan. And perhaps one day we may even see a Dodgers/Mariners World Series... Wow, I can dream big, can't I?

Anyway, the beans were fortunate enough to be invited inside, even though the Boys in Blue were on the road. Obviously, the ground crew mistook the beans for a major Hollywood star. See what power these little legumes have?

But anyway, Dodger Stadium opened in April 1962, and since that time over 110 million baseball fans have packed into the seats, enjoyed a Dodger Dog or two, and watched some pretty cool baseball. Dodger Stadium has hosted 8 World Series so far, and the Dodgers have won four World Championships. (We won't discuss the Reggie Jackson/New York Yankees era of the late 70's... but hey -- check out those Dodger highlights from their wins in 1981 and 1988!) Dodger Stadium has also hosted the 1984 Olympics, the Beatles, the Three Tenors, and of course, the final scene of everyone's favorite movie, "Better Off Dead". ("Two dollars! I want my two dollars!")

True story: I was lucky enough to see a Dodgers/Braves game here once. Although the game was sold out and there were people out front begging for any extra tickets, by the time of the first pitch, the stands were only about 1/3 full. But by the third inning, it was packed, and remained so until about the sixth inning, when the crowd thinned out. By the top of the 9th, it was back down to about 1/3 full again. Strange, in a "only in L.A" kind of way...

Regardless, the beans had a swell time living the Dodger life, and strongly encourage all of you out there (especially you Braves and Giants fans...) to do the same.
