Oceans of thanks to BATW Ambassador Christopher Lowe for researching the beans as they crossed the equator!
| Ahoy, mateys and other seafaring food groups, and welcome to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Today the beans are the special guests on board the Royal Research Ship James Clark Ross, which recently returned to the United Kingdom after a 13,500 KM trip to the Falkland Islands. The cruise left the Falklands on May 12, and made it back to Grimsby in the UK on June 17. As you can well expect, the beans had a fantastic time on board, even though 5 weeks of ocean life did start to play havoc with their canned vegetable imagination. While the beans didn't spot any mermaids, they could've sworn they saw the Nautilus pass by... But it was here at the midpoint of Planet Earth that the beans decided to hop up on some of that high-tech equipment and pose for a photo. As you can see, the beans are officially straddling the equator, and are proud to tell you that there really isn't a big line painted across the water here. (Believe me - they checked.) If you'd like to know more about the research on the James Clark Ross, be sure to check out their Web site - it's fascinating stuff. The beans are hoping to go back to the Falklands this fall, where they're hoping to hang out in the court of King Neptune. But in the meantime, the beans sincerely thank the crew for their kindness, hospitality, and most of all, for not making them walk the plank. |
