The beans are pleased to thank BATW Ambassador Fred Merkaloy for taking them to see the Doc!

Good morning, gunslingers and saloon gals, and welcome to the final resting place of the one and only John Henry "Doc" Holliday. John was born in August 1851, and lived to be the ripe old age of 36. But don't let the moniker "Doc" fool you - Doc Holliday really was a dentist, and according to history, a pretty good one at that. But it was his outside-of-work hobbies that brought him the most notoriety - gambling and gunfighting. (Couldn't he just take up golf like every other medical professional?)

Doc is probably best remembered for joining the Earp brothers on October 26, 1881 for their little Old West Gentlemen's Disagreement Settlement Hearing (a.k.a shootout) at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. (Be sure to check out the Kevin Costner and/or Kurt Russell movies for the Hollywood versions of the big day.) Doc survived the gunfire, and managed to live another 6 years before tuberculosis and his wild lifestyle caught up with him.

As you can see, according to Doc Holliday's final resting place, he died in bed. Hey - not too shabby of a place to go, in the beans opinion. I mean, given the choice of kicking the bucket while in bed or croaking in the middle of an Arizona corral with a belly full of lead, the beans would choose biting it in the sack any day of the week.

Snide double-entendres aside, the beans were glad to pay their respects to Doc, and promise to sit high in the saddle in his honor as they ride off into the sunset.
