An entire can of thanks to BATW Ambassador Colleen Hicks for taking the beans to Turkey!

Good morning, beans travelers and those who like a little bit of history in their vacations, and welcome to The City on Seven Hills! Today our favorite canned veggie has come to Istanbul, which is the 4th largest city in the world, with a population of just over 11 million. And as those of us who can remember the old song already know, "Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople", although it was historically Byzantium and later Constantinople, so there. But regardless of what it's called, Istanbul has been around for a long time. It was the capital city of the Roman Empire (330-395), the Byzantine Empire (395-1204 and 1261-1453), the Latin Empire (1204-1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453-1922). And just think - the poor deprived beans haven't been the capital of a single empire...yet.

But anyway, here the beans check out the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which is also known as the Blue Mosque, thanks to the blue tiles lining the walls of its interior. The Blue Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I, and is one of the top attractions in all of Turkey.

So the beans had a fantastic time in Turkey, and hope all of you can join them for some of that famous Turkish coffee (we'll skip the Turkish cigs, though - the frijoles have kicked the habit). Now if you'll excuse the beans, they're off to find some Turkish Delight. If they end up in Narnia, you'll know that things went awry.
