A double-tall half-caff latte to BATW Ambassdor and coffee connoisseur John Sumida for taking the beans out for a cup of joe!

Who's up for a really big wake-up call? Good morning from Tacoma, Washington, where you'll find Bob's Java Jive (world famous!), which is actually a bar/restaurant/karaoke joint. (Don't fret - if you ask reeeeally nicely, we suspect that you can still order a mug of coffee if you really want it...) Thanks in no small part to its unique shape, the Java Jive has a habit of turning up in just about every Hollywood movie filmed in and around Tacoma, including "Three Fugitives", "I Love You To Death" and "Ten Things I Hate About You", plus that wonderfully cool Cameron Crowe movie "Say Anything". In a convenient sequeway, Say Anything also includes a girl who sings a lot of songs about "Joe", but in this case they're about a guy, and not a pot of Maxwell House... The beans had a great time at the Java Jive, but unfortunately were awake with a nasty case of caffeine-induced jitters for the next 3 nights afterwards. Next time they'll order "Brim". |
| For some odd reason, the Java Jive has a decor that can best be described as "early Jungle Room". Fake palm trees, zebra patterns, faux leopard prints, monkeys painted on the walls, you name it. (I guess that this is supposed to help their patrons forget that it is most likely raining outside.) Still, the beans were happy to know that Mr. Parrot up there was just an illustration, and wasn't about to drop any "paint chips" on their can. | ![]() |
