What can the beans say except "Danke!" to BATW Ambassador Matt Hopkins for taking them to check out Germany!
| Guten tag, schwarze bohnen freund, and welcome to Munich, Germany! Located in the German state of Bavaria, Munich sports a local population of around 1,300,000. Munich was also home to the 1972 Summer Olympics, as well as today's home to BMW, Daimler-Chrysler Aerospace, and Silicon Bavaria. Before the beans hopped in the car for a ride on the autobahn, they stopped to snap a quick photo of Matt and his girlfriend Jana, who was kind enough to endure Matt's lugging the beans around Deutschland. The beans sincerely thank Jana for this, and hope to be able to hang around with her again soon. But now it's time to hit the road! |

Being the safety conscious vegetables they are, the beans were sure to buckle up before hitting the autobahn, where speed limits are for wimps. As we mentioned above, the worldwide headquarters for BMW are located here, which fully explains to the beans why those sweet little Beemers are able to go so fast -- 'cause they have to, to survive this stretch of road. There is no speed limit on the autobahn, although you do have to keep your eyes open for construction, disabled vehicles, and the occasional barnyard animal who made a potentially fatal wrong turn at the last gate. Being the speed demons that they are, the beans boldly told Matt to "punch it!", which he did. This was fantastic, as there's nothing the beans like better than having the wind blow through their label at Warp 1. |
| The first stop for the beans was up the road and just outside the town of Fussen, where they found the beautiful Neuschwanstein castle. It's this castle that has been widely rumored to be the basis for Walt Disney World's Sleeping Beauty castle, and looking at the impressive spires up close, it's not hard to see why. The castle was built between 1869 and 1886 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II, although it was technically never finished. There are murals throughout the castle depicting Wagner's operas, which is a lot better than the murals inside the bean's can (which were sorry to say mainly focus on the art of dogs playing poker). |

Neuschwanstein castle first opened to the public after the death of Ludwig in 1886, and today more than 1.3 million people visit the fairy tale castle. It'll cost you 8 euros for a tour, but c'mon - it's worth every cent. As you can well expect, the beans thought the Neuschwanstein castle was the coolest thing around. Their only disappointment? When they walked through the gate, Peter Pan's Flight wasn't immediately on the right. |
| Since Munich is widely considered to be the beer brewing capital of the world, it's only fitting that the beans dropped by a local establishment to quench their hermetically sealed thirst, right? So here they are at the SpatanHaus in Munich, where the golden ale pours freely, especially during Oktoberfest. The beans had a good time in the SpatanHaus, and assure you that they didn't even consider driving afterwards. (They may be canned, but they're still socially responsible.) | ![]() |

Hungry from all that castle walking and beer consuming, the beans decided to stop for a German snack; in this case Gummi Bears. I remember there being a kid's cartoon show in the late 80's which told the adventures of the Gummi Bears (who were just like Care Bears, only with hats), but the cartoon version didn't look anything like these gel guys, which is probably a good thing, because I suspect the kiddies wouldn't have liked the show if the TV Gummi Bears had their heads bitten off on a regular basis. Regardless, the beans enjoyed their Gummis, and are now in a desperate search for a toothpick... |
| Finally, the beans delved into the Bavarian woodlands, hoping to commune with nature for a while, but all they could find were these two guys, who unfortunately weren't speaking. Still, they did have a good time playing "yard art" for a while, until the novelty wore off and the beans decided to head back to SpatanHaus to see if they could score some bratwurst to go with their next pint. Who knows; get enough lager in 'em, and you may one day see a can of black beans in lederhosen Until then, Auf Wiedersehen! | ![]() |
