An extra large gratitude pie (with beans on it, of course!) to BATW Ambassador BJ Mezek for taking the beans to Mystic!
| Hello, brown eyed girls and those with a hankering for a deep dish special, and welcome to Mystic, Connecticut! Today the beans have dropped into this lovely village of 4,000 Yankees to see what's shaking, and wouldn't you know it, they came across Mystic's second most famous icon, Mystic Pizza. (The most famous? That would probably be Foxwood Casino down the road. Pizza is a wonderful thing, but MegaBucks jackpots are in an entirely different league.) But what's so special about this pizza place, you may ask? Why, it's here that Annabeth Gish, Lili Taylor, and yes - a then-unknown actress by the name of Julia Roberts - threw down some dough along with their lines for the 1988 film of the same name. The beans wish that more pizza joint waitresses looked like these three ladies - the server at the last place they were in (we won't name names, but we will say that it rhymes with "Rizza Rut") had vulgarities tattooed on her knuckles, which made for an amazing contrast with her vast facial hair. It was quite the sight, let me tell you... But anyway, if you haven't seen Mystic Pizza the Movie yet, then by all means join the acid-washed jeans wearing frijoles and run down to VideoBuster and rent it. It'll make you feel like the late 80's are back, which is a good thing...as long as you leave your New Kids on the Block cassettes behind, that is. We don't need to go that far back... |
