Beans Around The World

Although we didn't discover Laura Palmer's killer, the beans and I had a swell time nonetheless in North Bend. Here's how...

Greetings, mystery fans, and those of you who enjoy really bizarre TV & movies! Welcome to North Bend, Washington, where the impossible-to-explain David Lynch show "Twin Peaks" was filmed. Twin Peaks premiered April 8, 1990 on ABC, and spawned two seasons of strange shows and a followup movie in 1992 -Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, which was technically a prequel to the TV show.

North Bend is about 31 miles East of Seattle, and used to be known for having the only traffic light on I-90, but the Interstate bypassed downtown North Bend several years ago, so now it's mostly known for its 15 minutes of Twin Peaks fame, and a huge outlet mall.

For those of you that can't (or don't want to) remember Twin Peaks, it was about FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, a mystical loner and ecentric nature lover, comes to the small town of Twin Peaks to investigate the brutal murder of high school student Laura Palmer, but soon becomes entangled in most of the town's problems and situations.

Here, the beans overlook Mount Si, one of "Peaks" twins... The fog is typical fog this area, which lends itself to the eerie feeling.

Now, Agent Cooper didn't live on mysteries alone...No, while in Twin Peaks he enjoyed, as he put it, "a cup of damn fine coffee and a slice of cherry pie" at the Double R Diner, which is actually the Mar-T Café, a North Bend institution long before Kyle McLaughlin ate here.

As you can see from this photo, some of King County's finest law enforcement officers (some of whom in fact have been gracious enough to citatation yours truly during my rebellious past... okay, maybe I was speeding a little...) also enjoy that fantastic pie. (No donut jokes here today, kids...) The beans sure enjoyed the pie and coffee, and were glad to see that "damn fine black bean pie" isn't on the menu...

Speaking of coffee, we found this coffee shop down the street from the Mar-T, and decided that it needed the beans to pose with it as well. Even though it's not Twin Peaks related, it does have an interesting name, and may make a great shooting location for the rumored Twin Peaks II movie...
