A million thanks to Bob and Doris Darrow for their latest contribution!

Ah, higher learning. Welcome to Stanford University, home of the "Stanford Cardinal". (Not "Cardinals"... it's singular. You'll lose Trivia Pursuit every time if you say "Cardinals".) Founded in 1885 by railroad magnate Leland Stanford, the college opened in 1891, and has been improving young minds ever since. This picture is from in front of the famous Hoover Tower, which houses the Herbert Hoover Library.

So, who in the world has been to Stanford? You'd be amazed what you can find on the Web:

  • Astronaut Sally Ride
  • Former Secretary of State Warren Christopher
  • Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Anthony Kennedy, Sandra Day O'Connor, and William Rehnquist
  • John Elway
  • Tiger Woods
  • Finance God Charles Schwab
  • Former U.S. President Herbert Hoover
  • Nightline host Ted Koppel
  • Sigourney Weaver
  • Many, many, many Nobel prize winners, Pulitzer prize winners, all-star athletes, business founders, and generally brilliant people.
  • One can of S & W® beans!!!
So as you can see our beloved beans have hung out in good company. But the beans do have one thing all of these learned scholars will never have - excellent flavor when combined with rice and sausage. Take that, Elway...
