The Roman Colosseum wad built between 70 and 72 AD, and had room for 50,000 spectators, not counting those with rainbow wigs and oversized "#1" foam fingers.

Ah, but as Russell Crowe taught us, the real highlight of this massive arena was...death. Gladiator games, public executions, animal hunts, and re-enactments of battles were the star acts. Geez, what's wrong with just a Lady Gaga concert? It's just as gruesome to watch, only without the bloodshed.

Anyway, the beans were thrilled step into the arena to wield their own "special secret weapon". Oh, sure - they may not have a sword or chariot, but they do have sturdy metal armor and an expiration date that you really don't want to mess with.
