Hello, barons and baronesses, and welcome to the Salzburg region of Germany! Now, when most people think of "Salzburg", they instantly think of nearby Austria, but no -- the beans are actually on the German side of the line. (I checked.)

Here the beans and BATW Ambassador Jean stand in front of what was once a castle belonging to a long-lost king. The beans would like to have a castle of their own one day -- one that doesn't have a tin roof. Ah, to dream...

Before you blame me for my vagueness, here's the notes I received about this photo: "It is a statue of some king. I'm guessing from around 1736. Bill might say that it is a person of historical significance, but we don't really know who it is." Hmmm...So what you're telling me is that it could be a king, or it could be a statue dedicated to David Hasselhoff, right? Oh, well. Either way, the beans thought it was cool enough to stand beside for a photo.

Now, here's something I saw online (on several sites, actually) that could fall into the "may be true, may be b.s." category. But supposedly, here in Salzburg, Germany, every child born on August 18th has to be tested for possible witchcraft. This is thanks to a local legend that an evil warlock was born on that day in 1638. Well, you can rest assure that the bean's birthdate is nowhere near Aug 18th...or so they'll have you believe.

Of course, the most famous export out of the Salzburg region is everyone's favorite sing-a-long movie from 1965, "The Sound of Music". Parts of the movie were filmed in the area, including these very same infamous hills that Julie Andrews so lovably sang about.

And while they were admiring the view, the beans met a special visitor, in the form of a local pigeon. Although they didn't speak the little squab's language, they did finally figure out what the pigeon was asking, and politely pointed the birdy towards the Hasselhoff statue in the previous photo. Whew - another crisis averted.
