Hola, mi amigos, and welcome to Santiago, Chile! Santiago is located on the Mapocho River in the central part of the country, and is the largest city in all of this narrow-yet-long country, with a population of just over 4.7 million. Santiago is situated at an elevation of 1,700 ft up on an alluvial plain, with the snowcapped Andes Mountains visible to the East.

Santiago was established in 1541 by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia in an area inhabited by the Picunche people.

Here, the beans do the diplomatic thing and drop by the Chilean White House, home to President Ricardo Lagos Escobar. The beans would've knocked on the door and introduced themselves, but the thought of running into an armed security detail with machine guns blocking the way convinced them that it wasn't such a good idea.

Here the beans stop to say hi to "La Virgen del Cerro", also known as "The Virgin of the Hill". The Roman Catholic Church is a major force in Chilean society, although church and state were officially separated in 1925. Today, somewhere around 77% of the population is Catholic, with most of the remaining souls belonging to Protestant churches.

The beans felt blessed to be here, and were glad that the pigeons stayed away.

Next up, the beans swing by La Cathedral de Santiago. Yes, religion plays a major part of life in Chile. And so does marriage - Chile is one of the few countries left in the world that does not allow divorces. So you'd better choose wisely the first time...cause it's a long way to Vegas.

Finally, the beans decide to do a little shopping in town, and take a time out to admire the local artwork.

Bill said that he thought that this pony must've had a sore throat, because he said he was a little horse...
