Touchdown (or gooooooooal, as the case may be) to BATW Ambassador John Sumida for taking the beans to see soccer in a football stadium?
| Howdy, sports fans, and welcome to beautiful downtown Seattle, where you'll find the new Seahawks Stadium! Yes, they finally imploded that cement monstrosity known as the Kingdome, and in its place they built this beautiful new multi-purpose facility. This photo was actually taken during rush hour traffic on Interstate 5 -- yes, traffic was literally at a standstill. That's the new Seahawks stadium on the right; the building on the left is Safeco Field, home to the Mariners. |

For those of you who care about such statistical things, the stadium has a 72,000 person capacity, with the roof covering about 70% of them. (Well worth the extra couple of bucks, in the bean's opinion...) There are also 82 suites, which range in price from $50K to $150,000 grand. Sure, it sounds like a lot, but hey - this baby cost $360 million; they need to make their money back somehow, don't they? I mean, they can't charge $15 for a hot dog...(Oops, I shouldn't give them any ideas...) |
| But football (American style) isn't the only sport placed here -- you can also take in a soccer match; "football", as its known around the rest of the world. (Hey - don't blame us goofy Americans for not calling it by the right name. We don't get the metric system, either...) Seahawks Stadium is also home to the Seattle Sounders soccer club, which had the honor of playing the first professional sporting event ever in this stadium in July 2002. And as you can see, the beans were there on opening day, cheering on the Sounders and enjoying that $15 hot dog that they mistakenly joked about... Regardless, the beans had a good time at the stadium, and wish all of the Seattle teams well. And they'd wish them even more well if they changed their name to the "Seattle Black Beans"... |
