Hey, thanks as always to our wonderful Ambassadors Bob and Doris Darrow for starting the new year off with beans!

Greetings to all from Solvang, CA! Solvang is an authentic, honest-to-Goodness Danish settlement in California (two hours North of L.A., of all places). Meaning "Sunny Fields", Solvang was founded in 1911 by a small group of Danish educators who wanted to establish a Danish-type folk school where the kiddies learned their three "R's" (and no, that's not Reading, Rioting, and Ransacking...) Along with the teachers came farmers, carpenters, and artisans who constructed the first shops, homes, hotel, a Lutheran church, and of course the folk school.

Today, Solvang is a popular tourist destination, with tons of restaurants, hotels, and gift shops set up, all ready and willing to help you part with your American dollars for a slice of true Danish hospitality.

The beans had a great time in Solvang, and even slipped over to the huge "Anderson's Pea Soup" restaurant to say hi to their green brethren, who weren't talking, because they were too busy simmering. Too bad, but they did stay for a bowl or three...
