What can I say except WOW!!! Extra special thanks to BATW Ambassador Chris Lilly for bringing us a star-studded update!
| Hello, autograph hounds and interior design experts everywhere, and welcome to sunny Winter Springs, Florida. It seems that the beans were out walking around when they stumbled across the filming location for Trading Spaces, the smash hit room redecoration series, shown multiple times each week on TLC. And since the beans are both easily star struck and in a desperate need for a new look for the inside of their can, it was fate that brought them together. First up, the beans and their friend Alex stopped outside of the construction trailer, which doesn't exactly lend a hand to the whole "let's keep this filming location a secret" theory, what with the 5-foot high lettering on the side and all. But that's okay - it makes for a great bean photo opportunity, right? |

If you've never seen the show, it goes something like this: Two sets of homeowners trade houses for 48 hours of room redesign fun and/or madness. They're paired up with a designer, a carpenter, and a $1,000 budget. At the end of the two days, the homeowners return to their house to see what their friends have done while they were gone. Most people seem to like the change, but a few? Well, let's just say that they weren't too thrilled. But what you see is what you get - there are no take backs on this show. As you can suspect, they need to film the show without ten thousand close friends and neighbors dropping by and getting into their sight lines, so the houses are cordoned off with yellow warning tape and "CLOSED SET" signs. But since the beans can easily feign their ability to read, they jumped the tape barrier and went to see if they could meet any of the stars. And what luck! Because just around the corner was... |
| Ladies and gentlemen, it is the beans great pleasure to introduce you to the one and only... Paige Davis! Yes, it really is the beautiful and perky Paige with the beans and equally beautiful and perky BATW Ambassador Chris. Paige is the host of Trading Spaces; it is her job to go between the houses and check up on their progress, occasionally pitch in with a helping hand, and constantly remind the designers that the clock is ticking. All of this is done with one of the nicest smiles you'll find anywhere. Before joining Trading Spaces, Paige was a star on Broadway, so she and the beans had a good time singing songs from "Beauty and the Beast". (You should hear the beans sing "Belle" - they sound just like Gaston!) Anyway, we sincerely thank Paige for her bubbly spirit, and for making a can of frijoles very, very happy. |

The beans also had the honor to meet Edward Walker, one of the show's all-star designers. Edward is one of the newest designers to appear on the show, but he actually worked behind the scenes as a sewing coordinator for a couple of seasons. (What - you really didn't think the homeowners made all of those curtains and throw pillows by themselves, did you? Go pick up a copy of the new book "Trading Spaces Behind the Scenes" for more shocking tales of "secret helpers"...) Anyway, Edward is from North Carolina, and his designs are always classy - there's no moss tacked on his walls, thankyouverymuch. The beans thought Edward would be the perfect designer to re-do their rec room, and he was able to offer some fantastic suggestions for opening the can and letting some light in. The beans thank Edward for his kindness and ideas, and hope to start construction soon. Now, can anyone lend them $1,000 for some new skylights? |
| And even though it was getting dark by the time they had a chance to see her, the beans wouldn't dream of finishing up their day without meeting Amy Wynn Pastor, one of the show's carpenters. Amy Wynn is in charge of "Wynn World", the temporary carpentry shop set up under a tent in one of the homeowner's yards, and spends much of her two days building really cool book cases, coffee tables, entertainment centers, and whatever else the designers drop on her table saw. Amy Wynn is an inspiration for millions of women everywhere, including the spouses of your BATW team. She's smart, beautiful, and knows her way around power tools. The beans were humbled to meet Amy Wynn, and give her all the props in the world for her talent and skills. And if there was any way that she could whip together a quick and simple spice rack for them, the beans would forever be indebted... |

Now, since we all know that TV shows don't happen by themselves, the beans wanted you to also meet a couple of their new "behind the scenes" friends. This is the show's lighting man and grip, who fortunately did have a good grip on the can. It takes a lot of people to put a show like Trading Spaces together, but they handle it with grace, professionalism, and above all else, a sense of humor. And for that, the beans are suitably impressed. So in the end, the beans had a fantastic time with the Trading Spaces team, and hope that they grace our televisions each week for years to come. And in case you were wondering, the beans did actually consider trading spaces with another canned vegetable, but in the end decided it wouldn't be worth it to be locked in a carrot can for 48 hours. Besides, the carrots would probably trash their place... |
Hey! Our eternal thanks go out to Paige, Edward, Amy Wynn, and the entire cast and crew of Trading Spaces for their generosity and kindness towards posing with a 15-ounce can of beans. You are truly stars amongst the stars.
