Beans Around The World

Yosemite National Park - California

The beans climb to the peak to thank BATW Ambassador Stephanie for taking them to Yosemite!

Salutations, nature lovers and rugged outdoor types, and welcome to one of nature's most popular wonders! Today the frijoles have the pleasure of dropping by Yosemite National Park, here in beautiful California. Yosemite was officially designated as a national park in 1890, after Abraham Lincoln had stepped in a few years before to protect the Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias from developers. (Like the beans of today, Honest Abe was also aghast at the thought of strip malls taking over the world. Ah, if he only knew...)

Anyway, today over 3 million people a year make the trek up here to check out nature's beauty at its finest, and take it from the beans - it's well worth the drive.

Now here the beans are, admiring a stellar view that looks just like the scene carved in wood in the photo above, only this time with the real thing. Cool, ain't it? The flat-topped granite to your left is El Capitan, which sticks out of the ground about 3000 feet straight up, making it the world's largest granite monolith. Impressive, no?

The beans were thrilled to finally get to see El Capitan for themselves, and were twice as glad that there weren't any mysterious objects in the sky, like the last time they visited one of these flat-top peaks.

Here the beans get a really decent view of Yosemite Falls. At 2,425 feet, Yosemite Falls is the world's fifth tallest, and is made up of three separate falls - the Upper Yosemite, the Lower Yosemite, and the Middle Cascades.

The beans were tempted to try scaling the peaks for themselves, but alas - they had forgotten all about little important details, such as safety ropes or a helmet. So instead they admired the falls from the relative safety of the ground. See? They're not so crazy after all...

Of course, when it comes to waterfalls, spring is the thing. Winter snow melt-off means you'll see hundreds of waterfalls in the park from February or so until August, but by the end of summer the snowpack is gone, and the waterfalls tend to dry up. But that's okay - we know they'll be back next year, right?

Anyway, the beans love a good waterfall, but were a little sad that they forgot to bring their barrel to ride over this one in. But perhaps if they're daring enough, just this once they'll go "commando".

In the end, the frijoles had a thrilling time in Yosemite, and promise that they'll do their part to keep the park clean and pristine for the next million visitors. They may be canned, but they're certainly not litterbugs.
